When purchasing an engagement ring you have several choices. You can purchase a ring from a shop and have the experience complete in a matter of minutes or in the age of the internet it is not even necessary to leave the house to purchase an engagement ring. But, what we believe to be the most beautiful and sentimental choice is to have an engagement ring custom made especially for you and your partner.
Custom making an engagement ring is a process that evolves into a beautiful journey, one that you should allow time to be certain that the end result is what you have dreamt of. During the initial appointment, you will discuss with your jeweller what style you have in mind, the type of diamond or gemstone you would like and following this, your jeweller will show you a selection of stones and designs to suit. It may be that you have a clear vision and you finalise the design at this early stage, but on the other hand, it may take a few appointments to refine and perfect the design. This is completely normal, particularly if you are after a specific shape or coloured gemstone. It can take a little more time to find the perfect stone for you; so it is important to be mindful of this.
Once you have settled on your design and found the perfect diamond or coloured gemstone the process of custom making your ring can begin. Most jewellers will allow 4-5 weeks for completion from the time that the design has been finalised and a deposit has been paid. There are several elements involved in custom making a ring; from the manufacturing of the ring to the setting of the diamond/s and finally, all the finishing touches that go into making a beautifully crafted custom made piece.
The most important thing to keep in mind when opting for a custom-made engagement ring is to remember that it is like no other purchase. The sentimental value is like no other. It is important not to rush the journey of selecting a custom made ring and instead take the time to be sure you are 100% happy with the design you settle on. After all, in the scheme of a lifetime, a month or two is like a drop in an ocean!
