Is princess cut a good cut for a diamond?
Yes — the princess cut is sometimes called the “square modified brilliant” and is a good option if you’re looking for a square shape and want a lot of sparkle. While it does have a 76-facet guideline, there are no proportion standards in the jeweller industry, so you’ll have a variety of options for proportions. Because of the square corners, you may want to choose a more protective setting, like a bezel or semi-bezel.
Do princess cut diamonds cost more?
No. As with many fancy cut diamonds, princess cuts tend to cost less than the same carat weight of a round brilliant diamond. That being said, princess cuts can look smaller from above than round brilliants, so you may need more carat weight than a round brilliant if you’re looking for a specific size of diamond for your design.
Why are princess cut diamonds less popular?
They aren’t less popular among fancy cuts. Princess cuts are actually one of the more popular shapes, as they were created to essentially be the square version of the round brilliant.
Does a halo make a diamond look bigger?
Yes, halos tend to make the centre stone in an engagement or dress ring look bigger, by adding that border of smaller diamonds or other stones around it. This adds to the sparkle and size of the centre stone, usually without the budget of going for a larger carat or adding multiple larger stones.
