Can tanzanite be used as an engagement ring?
Yes, tanzanite can be used in an engagement ring, although it must be worn with care. Because of both it’s slightly softer rating on the Moh’s scale (6-7) and its composition, the stone can be prone to chipping and scratching. When set in an engagement ring and worn daily, your jeweller will work with you to find the right setting that protects the stone in the kind of design you want.
Is tanzanite expensive?
Yes. Because it is such a rare stone, tanzanite is relatively expensive, and would cost slightly less than the equivalent sapphire.
How can you tell if tanzanite is real?
Gemstones like tanzanite should be verified and certified by reputable gemologists. As they experts, they’ll be able to confirm the gemstone is genuine; there’s little visible to the naked eye that will differentiate real tanzanite from fake.
Can tanzanite go in water?
As a general rule it’s best to not wear tanzanite jewellery in water. The water itself shouldn’t damage the jewellery, temperature and other factors (sand, chlorine or other elements) may.
