While 24ct gold is the purest expression of gold, it is not suitable for jewellery that will be worn every day. 24ct yellow gold wedding bands are quite soft and can be easily damaged. We usually recommend 18ct gold (which is 75% pure and alloyed with metals like copper or silver) for jewellery that will be worn daily, as it is much more durable while still having a high purity.
18ct gold is generally considered the standard for jewellery designed with regular use in mind. 24ct gold has a greater level of purity than 18ct gold (100% compared to 75%), but is considerably softer and more prone to wear, scratching and losing its shape. 18ct gold strikes the perfect balance of purity and practicality, making it ideal for yellow gold wedding rings that will last a lifetime.
